How to Make $100 in 2 Hours

Posted: October 29th, 2009 | Filed under: How-To Comment

Making $50 in an hour is nothing to sneeze at. Extrapolating that out to 40 hours a week and 52 weeks per year, comes to a little over $100,000! Take a second to think about that…

In this guide, we are going to breakdown a simple yet mind-blowing way to make money online. Seriously, after you do this the first time, you won’t believe how easy it really is to make this amount of money!

With my specific case study, I came up with 2 hours because that profit margin breakdown really enticed me to work on this over other potential projects. That being said, using this method, you can really make more or less than that depending on what your preference is.

Enough babbling… lets get started!

The Method

Objective. To create a site with starter content in 2 hours, so its ready to sell for at least $100.

Why would this work? In this specific method we are looking to create a starter site that will allow the buyer to come in and build on top of the foundation we have already created, thus, relieving them of the tedious or complex duties that are generally accompanied with creating a new site.

Buyers would include either people that don’t know much about web design or those that would rather outsource the work and concentrate more on other stuff. That being said, even if you don’t know much about web design, I will share a simple technique to get around that problem.

What you should know? While I’ll be going over general steps of what you need to do, getting familiar with the following stuff will help move the process along even faster:

Case Study

Alright, now that we got all the preliminary stuff out of the way, lets first look at my actual case study…

Summary. I set myself a 2 hours time limit where I created a body building site, threw up 6 good pillar/SEO articles. At the end of the time limit, I put the site up for sale and successfully sold it for $100.

How To Do It All

This method is broken down into 3 main steps. The recommended time limits I used are listed below; however, depending on your strengths may depict another time breakdown.

  • Market Research (15 min)
  • Site Creation (1 hour)
  • Content Creation (45 min)

1. Market Research

First thing first, we got to see whats hot right now. That would obviously help increase our potential buyer base as they would be doing the same thing before they buy a site. A quick way to do this is through free Google tools such as Google Trends and Google Insights.

See what seems to be hot or search most often. Like I stated earlier, it helps if you are familiar with what type of affiliate programs are available. To be honest, there is no real secret to this as most of the popular niches will generally be the same all the time.

I’ll talk more about this later, but also check Flippa. Click on on the sell tab and see whats been selling and what auctions seem to be popular. It will give you a good idea on what buyers are looking for and a reasonable price range they are willing to pay.

2. Site Creation

By now you should have a good idea of your niche, and what affiliate programs you can use. Obviously, you don’t really care about making money with them, but by placing them on your site, it will help buyers know that there are ways to make money with this site and in the niche.

Think of it like staging a house when you are trying to sell it. Yes, the buyer might know it a living room, but proper placement of furniture or pictures could help them see things they otherwise wouldn’t have thought of.

You should also have registered a domain by now. There is not much to say here, but just try to keep it short and easy to remember. People tend to like domain names with keywords in them. Check out a list of great providers to host your domain with.

Note: Domain names usually can’t be completely transferred before 60 days of registering, so be ready to host the domain for a couple months if needed.

Now some people are probably wondering how it is possible to create a site within an hour? The key is to find or make a good theme that you can easily edit to make look completely different, and do it over and over again. Whether it be shifting sidebars, changing logos, or color, do something that makes the theme look completely original.

For those not great with web design, try finding a theme like Thesis that allows you to completely change the look of the site all from the admin panel.

The key is to keep things simple, while conveying to buyers the potential of your site. Remember that we are only going to be having start up content on the site, so don’t pick too complex themes that don’t look good with very little content.

3. Content Creation

In all honesty, I think most of the money is made in the step of the process. Designs come and go, but great content can actually mean the different between a quick sale and more money.

Going back to the market research phase, you should have thought of about 5 good articles that you could write for the site. These should not be spamming articles, but rather great SEO content that the site can be built around.

On my muscle building site, one article talked about how create 6 pack abs with a link to an affiliate at the bottom. Another article talked about the keys to performing the right bench press. Again, you want to show buyers that good content is already on the site and it is “monetizable.”

If you are covering a niche that you are not familiar with or just looking for quick article ideas, then check out wikiHow and search for related articles.

How To Sell Your Site

Finally the 2 hours are up and we are ready to make that money. There are several ways to do that. Some paid and other free, but it depends on how much time you are willing to put in.

For my site, I simply set up a basic auction on Flippa and let it run. The great thing about Flippa is that you aren’t required to sell if your price isn’t met, and your post is still up there even when the auction is over, so you don’t have to worry about making a sale within that live time frame.

I highly recommend that you DO NOT settle for a low bid! Remember that we have just created a full site and added 5 great articles to the site. There is no need to sell low just because you can’t find a buyer, and its not like it is costing you anything extra to hold on to the site.

Since you already have the affiliate links and content up, let it sit there if needed. Who knows… maybe you make an affiliate sale. The longer you hold your site the more pages that will be indexed in Google, which makes your site even more attractive. Basically, what I am telling you is that there is no need to sell at the first price when its low.

Make sure to use all your resources. Yeah you can use Flippa, but you also have Twitter and message boards such as Warrior, which are all free to use. Just remember to consider your profit margin with whatever resources you use.

Pricing your site. Typically the average payout for a very simple starter site is $100. Depending on the quality it can be lower or higher. At the same time, depending on your selling acumen and resources you may be able to sell for even more; however, for ease, I always just set a base price of $100.

Time to Take Action

Wooh… we finally made it. Now that you know what to do it is time for you to give it a try. Remember to keep profit margin in mind throughout the entire creation process. Using my example, if I extended by 2 hours to 3 hours, then my $50 just got swatted down to $33.

Any success stories? Are there any methods or steps to make this process even more efficient?
